Overview
The Ausangate & Rainbow Mountain Trek – 3-Day is a compact yet powerful Andean trekking experience, ideal for hikers who want to explore dramatic mountain scenery, remote trails, and the vibrant Rainbow Mountain — all in just three days.
The adventure begins in Pacchanta, a small Andean village known for its thermal baths and impressive views of Ausangate (6,384 m), the highest peak in southern Peru. From here, you’ll hike into the heart of the Vilcanota range, passing through high-altitude valleys and scenic mountain camps. On day two, the trail takes you across the Apacheta Pass (4,900 m), from where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Pucacocha lagoons, a chain of turquoise lakes nestled at the base of glaciated peaks.
The final day is reserved for the crown jewel: an early-morning hike to Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) to witness its vibrant colors before the tourist crowds arrive. This trek is fully supported with expert guides, meals, and pack animals, offering both adventure and comfort.
Whether you’re acclimatizing for a bigger climb or simply short on time, this 3-day trek is an excellent way to experience the raw beauty, altitude, and culture of the Ausangate region.
