Overview
The Chumpe Climb – 6,110 m High-Altitude Expedition is a remote and rewarding mountaineering journey deep in the Vilcanota range, ideal for experienced trekkers and climbers seeking solitude, technical challenge, and stunning alpine beauty. This 4-day expedition begins in Cusco and travels toward the lesser-known highland valley of Mullocococha, where the adventure begins.
On the approach hike, you’ll pass herds of alpacas, rolling high Andean plateaus, and arrive at a privileged viewpoint over the sacred Sengrinacocha Lagoon, a stunning turquoise lake flanked by glaciers. The route continues to the base camp of Chumpe, located around 5,100 meters, surrounded by sharp ridges, hanging ice, and pure wilderness.
The summit day begins before dawn. You’ll ascend the glaciated southwest face of Chumpe using crampons, ice axe, and ropes, accompanied by certified mountain guides. The summit (6,110 m) offers panoramic views of Ausangate, Callangate, and the vast Vilcanota range — a breathtaking reward for your effort.
Chumpe is a rarely climbed peak, making this a truly off-the-beaten-path expedition. It requires good acclimatization, technical readiness, and strong physical condition. Full logistical support, porters, meals, and safety equipment are provided, ensuring a secure and unforgettable high-mountain experience.
