The 7 Lakes of Ausangate is one of the most impressive day hikes in the Cusco region. How to Get From Cusco to Pacchanta
Most tours depart from Cusco at 4:30 a.m. The drive takes approximately 3 hours to reach Pacchanta, where breakfast is usually served before starting the hike.
If you travel independently, you can take public transport from Cusco to Tinki and then connect to Pacchanta by local vehicle. However, schedules are limited and transportation may require coordination with multiple drivers.
Altitude and Starting Point
The hike begins in Pacchanta at 4,334 m a.s.l. and reaches an altitude of around 4,600 m a.s.l. at the highest viewpoints. Due to the elevation, acclimatization in Cusco at least one day before the trek is recommended.
Trail Conditions and Weather
The route is a dirt trail with rocky sections. Conditions change significantly depending on the season:
- Dry season (June to September): dusty paths, clear skies and dry yellow landscapes.
- Rainy season (October to early May): muddy terrain, greener scenery and more frequent rain.
In peak season, the route receives approximately 100 visitors per day.
